After years of testing various nappy materials, we concluded that bamboo terry was the best choice to keep your baby dry and happy.
A reusable cloth insert made from bamboo provides the perfect balance between thirsty absorbency, quick drying time, and minimal shrinkage. If we compare a bamboo insert with a microfibre cloth nappy insert, bamboo holds more liquid and isn't prone to compression leaks in the same way as microfibre.
When comparing bamboo with hemp, bamboo retains its shape with minimal shrinkage, stays luxuriously soft, and doesn't start to feel rough against baby's skin like hemp does.
Quick & Easy To Use
Each modern cloth nappy comes with an insert set containing two bamboo inserts, that are easily snapped into place within the cover.
This includes a large insert and a smaller one, also known as a booster. For smaller babies and newborns, it is sometimes sufficient to use just one of these in isolation.
As baby grows, you'll quickly find you need to use both together.
Smelling Fresh Wash After Wash
It's easy to keep your modern cloth nappies sparkling clean when you have access to the right wash information. If you're a cloth nappy newbie, we recommend using bamboo nappy liners to help with the poo clean up. These nappy liners simply sit on top of the nappy insert, directly against baby's skin, to catch poo whilst allowing liquids to pass through.

Night Time Friendly
Adding extra soakers (inserts) to your reusable nappy is a great way to boost it and create your night nappy. The amount of absorbency required will vary from baby to baby.
We recommend trying with a little more than you think you may need, then cutting back the following night if the nappy is mostly dry in the morning.
For heavy wetters, we recommend using a wool cover for added leak protection.

How many cloth inserts do I need?
Two cloth inserts come with each nappy, ideal for standard day-time use. To reduce the amount of washing, you can purchase additional soaker packs to enable you to simply switch out the inserts without changing the cover. We recommend starting with our trial packs and building out from there.
How to fit inserts in cloth nappies?
Our inserts are easily snapped into place on the nappy cover within seconds - there are no fiddly pockets to stuff.
How long do cloth nappy inserts last?
The twelve layers of absorbency provided with each nappy is enough to last until your baby is due to have their nappy changed every two to three hours.
Can NappyLuxe be used at night?
To use as a night nappy, we recommend boosting your reusable nappies with trifold inserts. Each baby varies in their volume of output at night, so you will need to test and monitor to find the right amount of extra absorbency.
What's the difference between a liner, nappy insert, soaker, and booster?
The terms nappy liners and nappy inserts are sometimes incorrectly used interchangeably, so it's natural to be confused. Typically, "inserts" or “soakers” refers to the main material within the nappy that absorbs liquid. A booster is usually in the form of a smaller additional insert. Nappy liners are a paper-thin layer that catches solids but allows liquid to pass through to the inserts. A liner is an optional part, and it is used to help with the poo clean up.
What are the best inserts for cloth nappies?
We believe that Bamboo Terry works best for cloth nappies, as it provides an idea balance between absorbency and fast drying time, whilst retaining its softness and shape even after years of use.

Can I use NappyLuxe inserts with my other cloth nappies?
Yes, they are universal and compatible with other reusable nappies.
Snap-in or lay the inserts into your other reusable nappy. If you use a pocket nappy, stuff them within the pocket.
The small soakers are ideal to add to training pants as a backup during toilet training.
If you have a smaller newborn nappy, the smaller NappyLuxe booster works well to lay inside.
At NappyLuxe HQ, we've even been known to use a swim nappy shell combined with inserts laid inside as a backup nappy when all others are in the wash. Swim nappies are similar to nappy shells without any added absorbency, allowing liquids to pass through but catching any solids.

What other products do I need to start my cloth nappy journey?
We recommend travel change mats, for changes on the go. We also recommend grabbing a wet bag or five! They are handy for storing clean and used nappies and clothing in. As your baby transitions out of nappies, wet bags provide an ideal smaller nappy bag when you no longer need to take a large bag out with you. When you have older kids and your child starts Kindy and school, educators often recommend sending your child with a wet bag in the backpack for if there are any accidents during the day. Reusable breast pads are useful during the breastfeeding years, and a cloth pad stash is also recommended to further reduce your environmental footprint.
